The Serengeti is a vast and world-renowned ecosystem and national park in northern Tanzania, extending into southwestern Kenya. Its name comes from the Maasai word "siringit," meaning "endless plains," which accurately describes its immense, rolling grasslands. The region is most famous for hosting the Great Migration, the largest overland animal migration on Earth.

In August, the Serengeti is dominated by the dramatic and dangerous Mara River crossings during the Great Migration. Beyond this famous spectacle, the park's resident wildlife thrives in the dry season's open landscape, which makes animal spotting easier.
